Arriving From Istanbul

The sensible routing is a domestic flight from Istanbul into Mardin Airport (MQM), or into another appropriate regional airport — Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır or Gaziantep — depending on the schedules available and on the wider shape of your itinerary. A private transfer meets the flight and carries you into the city.
Flight timetables vary by date and season, so we plan the ground arrangements around the connections actually available for your journey rather than assuming a particular service. A same-day return from Istanbul may be technically possible on some schedules, but we would recommend at least two days and one night to make a private visit worthwhile.

From arrival onward you travel with your own licensed guide and your own driver.
- Can Mardin be done as a day trip from Istanbul?
- On some flight schedules it may be technically possible, but it is not what we would recommend. Mardin rewards an evening and a morning in the old city, and a same-day return leaves little of that. Two days and one night is the shortest shape we would suggest for a worthwhile private visit.
- How many days are best for Mardin?
- Two days and one night covers the old city and Dara at a reasonable pace. Three days and two nights adds Midyat and the Tur Abdin plateau without compressing anything, and is the length most travellers find comfortable.
- Can Dara be visited on the same journey?
- Yes. Dara Ancient City lies south of Mardin and is readily combined within the same private journey, typically as a half day. Opening arrangements at archaeological sites can change, so we confirm the conditions in force for your dates while planning.
- Can Midyat and Mor Gabriel be included?
- Both can be included, usually on a day east from Mardin. Mor Gabriel is a working monastery and receives visitors according to its own arrangements, so a visit is planned around what the community permits at the time of travel rather than promised in advance.
- Is the tour private?
- Yes. You travel with your own party, your own licensed professional guide and your own driver, on a programme composed for you alone. Private guiding and private transport do not imply any special arrangement at monasteries, museums or archaeological sites, which are visited under the conditions that apply to all visitors.

- When is a comfortable time to visit Mardin?
- Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable periods for walking the old city and visiting open sites. Summers on the plain are hot and winter days are shorter, so daily timing is adapted to seasonal conditions and to the opening hours in force.
- Can Mardin be combined with Göbeklitepe and Şanlıurfa?
- Yes, and many journeys are built that way. Şanlıurfa with Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe sits within a comfortable drive west of Mardin, and Gaziantep can be added at the western end for a longer itinerary across the region.
