Private Luxury & Tailor-Made Göbeklitepe Tours

Private luxury and tailor-made Göbeklitepe tours with licensed professional guides, boutique accommodation and carefully planned visits to Karahantepe and Şanlıurfa.

One of the World's Earliest Sanctuaries

A private Göbeklitepe journey, more than eleven thousand years in the making.

More than eleven thousand years ago, communities gathered on a hilltop in Southeastern Turkey and transformed stone into memory — raising the carved T-pillars of Göbeklitepe, one of the world's earliest known monumental ritual sites. Sumera Expeditions designs private luxury and tailor-made Göbeklitepe tours, taking in its sister site Karahantepe and the old city of Şanlıurfa with licensed professional guides.

No coaches. No fixed group departures. No queues at the visitor centre. Your private guide, your chauffeured Mercedes, your restored stone mansion in the old city of Şanlıurfa — every moment designed in advance, none of them rushed.

    Why Travel With Sumera

What a luxury Göbeklitepe tour with Sumera actually means.

Enter the enclosures with your licensed guide during official opening hours — more than eleven thousand years of stone, read carefully and unhurried.

    Karahantepe Sister Sanctuary

A privately guided visit to Karahantepe when the site is open to visitors — the chamber of pillars and one of the earliest life-sized human figures yet discovered. Subject to site regulations.

Composed for two to six guests, never merged with strangers. Your guide, your chauffeur, your table — all yours for the length of the journey.

    Licensed Professional Guides

    The Old City, Slowly

Balıklıgöl at dusk, the coppersmiths' bazaar, sıra gecesi with a local storyteller, dinners in stone-vaulted courtyards behind old wooden doors.

Every hour is designed in advance and every unforeseen moment answered in real time — from onboard refreshments to itinerary adjustments.

    A Sample Four-Day Journey

    Göbeklitepe & Şanlıurfa — a private four-day expedition.

The shape below is a starting point, not a fixed programme. Every Sumera journey is tailored: extend into Mardin and Nemrut, add Nemrut, Cappadocia or Istanbul, or shorten to a two-night immersion built around the sunrise on the tepe.

    1. Day 1 · Şanlıurfa

Private VIP arrival at Şanlıurfa airport. Mercedes V-Class transfer to a restored stone mansion in the old city. Evening walk to Balıklıgöl, the sacred pool of Abraham, and a candlelit dinner in a courtyard behind old wooden doors.

    2. Day 2 · Göbeklitepe

Depart in the cool of the morning for Göbeklitepe. Enter the enclosures with your licensed guide during official opening hours, reading the T-pillars slowly and in your own time. Return to Urfa; afternoon in the Archaeology Museum with a guided walk-through of the Taş Tepeler finds.

    3. Day 3 · Karahantepe & Harran

Privately guided visit to Karahantepe — the chamber of pillars and the seated statue, subject to site regulations. Afternoon at Harran's beehive houses; evening in the coppersmiths' bazaar and sıra gecesi with a local storyteller.

    4. Day 4 · Departure

A quiet late breakfast on a rooftop over the old city. Optional visit to Sayburç, the rock-carved reliefs, before your private transfer to the airport. A copper ewer of water is poured behind the departing car — an old Anatolian farewell.

    Questions, Answered

    About private Göbeklitepe tours.

What is included in a private Göbeklitepe tour?+

A typical private tour includes a licensed professional guide, private vehicle and driver, boutique or restored stone-mansion accommodation in Şanlıurfa, site entrance fees, planned meals and 24/7 support from your travel designer. Flights and personal expenses are quoted separately.

    Can the itinerary be tailor-made?+

Yes. Every itinerary is tailor-made around your dates, pace, party size and interests — from a compact two-night visit to an extended journey through Mardin, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep or Cappadocia.

    Is Karahantepe included?+

Karahantepe is included whenever it is open to visitors, alongside Göbeklitepe and the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum. All visits follow the current site regulations and opening hours set by the Şanlıurfa Museum directorate.

    Which airport is used?+

Şanlıurfa GAP Airport (GNY) is the closest airport, with connections via Istanbul and Ankara. Gaziantep (GZT) and Mardin (MQM) work well for journeys that combine several regions, and we arrange private transfers from any of them.

Are licensed guides available in different languages?+

Guiding is regularly available in English and Turkish, and we can arrange licensed guides in other languages — including German, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Japanese — subject to availability on your dates.

Are these private tours or shared departures?+

All of our Göbeklitepe tours are private. There are no shared or fixed group departures: you travel only with your own party, your guide and your driver.

What makes a Sumera Göbeklitepe journey different from a standard day trip?+

Standard day trips visit Göbeklitepe with the crowds on a fixed group schedule. Sumera composes private, tailor-made journeys with licensed professional guides, refined accommodation and seamless private transportation — one party at a time. Site visits at Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe are conducted in accordance with the official regulations and opening hours of the Şanlıurfa Museum directorate.

How is the visit to Göbeklitepe organised?+

Your private guide accompanies you along the visitor walkway during official opening hours, with time set aside for a slow reading of the enclosures. We plan around cooler, quieter parts of the day whenever the season allows.

Do you also visit Karahantepe on the same journey?+

When Karahantepe is open to the public, we include it on every private itinerary — Göbeklitepe's sister sanctuary and home to one of the earliest life-sized human statues yet discovered. All visits are subject to the current site regulations issued by the Şanlıurfa Museum directorate.

How many days should I plan for a Göbeklitepe journey?+

Three to four days is our recommended minimum: two full days in the Taş Tepeler (Göbeklitepe, Karahantepe, Sayburç, Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum), a day for the old city and Balıklıgöl, and time to travel in properly. Longer eight- to twelve-day journeys pair Göbeklitepe with Mardin, Nemrut and Cappadocia.

What does a private luxury Göbeklitepe journey cost?+

Our focused four-day Göbeklitepe & Şanlıurfa private journey starts from €2,800 per guest for parties of two to six. Extended multi-region expeditions are quoted on request by a private travel designer.

When is the best time of year to visit Göbeklitepe?+

April to early June and late September to November are ideal — long days, gentle light and comfortable temperatures on the tepe. High summer is intense at midday; we adjust the itinerary to earlier and later visits.
